Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation announced today a new regional partnership with the Athens Area Citizens for the Arts. This partnership will provide a strong and vital link between the statewide and regional organizations, both of whom work tirelessly to promote the arts as an essential industry in Ohio.
Donna Collins, executive director of Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation summarized the relationship by saying, “Together we are stronger, as individuals and organizations, working to help Ohioans understand the depth and breadth of the arts. The Athens County area has a vibrant arts scene with some of the most talented and well-respected artists and arts organizations in the state, well, actually the world.”
The Athens Area Citizens for the Arts strives to empower individuals and organizations to support the arts at the local, state, and federal levels. Most recently the organizations worked together with the Athens Municipal Arts Commission to host Randy Cohen, Vice President of Research at Americans for the Arts, to introduce the Arts and Economic Prosperity IV Report for Athens County.
Cohen shared with forum participants and WOUB radio listeners the impact of the arts in Athens County – touting nearly 800 full-time equivalent jobs, $24.3 million in arts related economic activity, and $2.2 million in government revenue. Bob Winters, Interim Coordinator for the Athens Area Citizens for the Arts, concluded that, “The arts in Athens County are alive and well. The artists and arts organizations are reaching people in the region and bringing people in from around Ohio and the surrounding area – driving up the return on investment of the arts in our region.” To listen in on the recent radio broadcast with Cohen and Collins, hosted by Andrea Lewis, visit the WOUB NPR/PBS website.
This new regional partnership is hoped to be the wave of the future by creating opportunities for artists, arts and arts education organizations, and citizens to come together in support of the arts.
